- Open time
- Dilation or Drive Joints
- Attention to settling and grouting products
Apply the ceramic pieces by sliding them a little on the mortar strings.
Press the pieces by hand and tap with a rubber mallet to crush the strings and ensure a better grip.
From time to time, remove and observe a newly seated piece.
The back of the piece should be at least 90% of its area filled with sticky mortar.
Control the open time of the adhesive mortar.
The mortar will be in good condition if, upon touching the laces, the fingers are dirty.
Do not apply the coating to areas where the mortar is already dry.
To protect the area from wind currents and the user from prying eyes, garden planning is a good option.
Thus, along with your landscaper, you can choose species that match the style of the house and your personal taste and that are still suitable for the leisure sector.
Plants, water and leisure also suggest a beautiful waterfall or mirrors.
It is easy: the pool water itself can be harnessed with an extension of the return pipe that will gush over it.
In addition to fun you will have a tropical environment.
The deck acts as the frame of the pool, harmonizing it with the architectural whole. However, when choosing the material, in addition to aesthetics consider also the safety factor.
The floor must be sturdy and non-slip to prevent accidents.
Dilation or Drive Joints
Dilatation joints shall be provided in all encounters between walls, on the slopes at the bottom of the pool and every 4 linear meters of coating, defining rags not greater than 10 m2.
The width of the expansion joints shall be at least equal to the width of the joint joints.
These joints aim to allow and compensate for possible differential dimensional variations that originate in the multilayer construction system.
They must be foreseen in the meetings of the structure with the fittings, lamps, windows etc. emitting to the coated surface.
Be careful not to damage the waterproofing. As a sealing material for these joints, polyurethane mastic is recommended.
The seating joints (space between pieces) are of fundamental importance.
They absorb the deformations of the base avoiding that the diverse requests of the structure can be transmitted to the ceramics.
Note the minimum width of 5 mm. Check the package and note the ideal joint width for the coating purchased.
The grouting can be started 48 hours after the settlement.
Attention to settling and grouting products
In the planning stage also include the specification of laying and grouting mortars.
Eliane Argamassas products offer state-of-the-art technology and settlement methods, providing superior performance, resistance to chemical attack, thermal shocks and pH variations of the water, giving flexibility and high resistance to differential accommodations caused by the expansion movement and drying retraction.
Mortar for laying
The choice of mortar type for laying depends on the type of pool to be coated.
For thermal swimming pools and laying on waterproofing membrane, it is recommended to use the Ligamax Mineral Charge Mortar together with Adimax Super or Premium Admixture according to the size of the pool.
For unheated pools the recommended product is Ligamax Extra Mortar.
Mortar for grout
The best solution for grouting is the use of epoxy-based mortar.
It promotes a complete waterproofing of the grout making it very easy to clean and maintain hygienic conditions.
Eliane Argamassas offers the best epoxy grout on the market, specially developed for use in swimming pools, the Juntaplus Epoxy Pool grout, suitable for use with any type of ceramic coating.
Another option of grouting, only for enamelled products, is the use of cement-based grouting Juntaplus Piscina with Adimax Additive for Grouting.
Having made the choice of colors and patterns of swimming pool coverings and products for settlement, we recommend that the settlement take some necessary care:
- Preparation of adhesive mortar
Mix the mortar in a clean container, always observing the amount of water indicated.
Eventually this amount may vary according to local climatic conditions.
Make sure you are using the adhesive mortar indicated for your application.
Pour the amount of water indicated on the container.
Then add the powder, stirring constantly until a firm consistency and no lumps.
Allow the mortar to stand for 5 to 10 minutes.
Re-stir without adding more powder or liquid.
During use stir occasionally to keep the mixture workable. To give more speed to the preparation and to improve the mixing operation use electric mixer.
- Application of the adhesive mortar
Begin the settlement by the walls and then run the laying of the floor.
During settlement and on later days conveniently protect the coating against direct wind and sun.
Apply a thin layer of adhesive mortar (3 to 4 mm) with the flat side of the trowel, thus providing better adhesion.
Then use the toothed side of the trowel at an angle of approximately 600 to form mortar strings.
Remove the spacers and grout for at least 48 hours after the settlement ends.
Clean all joints and surface of seated parts while the mortar is still fresh.
Premature cleaning may lead to partial removal of the grout and, if late, will require aggressive, mechanical or chemical cleaning which may irreversibly damage the ceramic surface.
In cases of floors with rustic texture pass a layer of liquid wax on the piece before the grouting.
Carefully read the instructions on the grout packing.
To fill the pool wait 14 days after the grouting with Juntaplus Piscina + Adimax Additive for grouting and 7 days for the Epoxy Pool grout.
This time may vary according to the temperature and humidity conditions of the place.
Fill the pool by placing an average of 600 mm of water every 24 hours to allow gradual exposure of water pressure and differential thermal and humidity movements.
Avoid emptying the pool as this may compromise its structure.
If necessary, consult your engineer to do so safely.
It is interesting to provide a tarp cover or other material for when the pool is out of use. This drastically decreases water loss through evaporation.
