What is Quilling?
The quilling or filigree, another denomination that this art receives; is a craft technique made from strips of paper.
Quiling originated in the East and was taken to Europe between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. According to reports, the golden edges of Bibles were used in Europe, and the result was an art in shades of gold.
The sacred themes were inspirations for the technique
Over time, the used paper has changed, and nowadays one can use papers of different weights, as long as they are moldable and colored on both sides. The way the paper is used remains the same - paper rolls which together form a drawing
Papers, Materials and Tools Needed
For craft with paper, the list is not very extensive, and paper is a must.
The type of paper may vary, but ideally between 80 and 120g, which are easier to handle. Ideally, the paper be colored on both sides, which will make the result more beautiful. The paper can be cut or already bought in strips for the filigree art.
Besides paper, you also need white glue and scissors or stylus. These are basic items for those starting in the quilling universe, but there is also the possibility of using a mix of materials and include other items such as satin ribbon.
Some tools, such as paper meters and shapes, can also be used, but are not required items and can be easily adapted.
